Insurance at last!!
Insurance at last!!
Whilst I was on my other favourite forum 'The Combicampers', one of the ladies mentioned these for insuring your various units.
http://www.shieldtotalinsurance.co.uk/
Five minutes later, one Portafold named Matilda insured fully comp for £56 up to the value of (for unit and contents) £1500. Now I call that peace of mind!!
Bright Blessing, Happy Yule or Merry Christmas to you all, whichever you prefer?!!

Jan,
Have you seen my page on insurance?...
http://www.portafold.co.uk/insurance.html
It's good to find another company that's prepared to insure a folding caravan though, and one that's over 20 years old. I could only find the ones I've put on the page above. I've got mine insured through the caravan club's insurance company. You have to be a member of the club but even with that it still worked out quite cheap. Plus they insure the awning and all my clutter that's in it. And of course you get all the benefits of being in the club.

Re: INSURANCE AT LAST!!
Hi Matthew, sorry I didn't see your page, to be honest I'm having a problem navigating this new site. It doesn't take much to confuse me though!
My awning is insured as well, but we are considering somewhen in the future joining either the CC or the C& CC club., so maybe they will be an option.

Re: Insurance at last!!
Portafold insurance, to be honest, I don't have any, but coming to think of it, does it cover you in a crash (god forbit) or burn down, break in damage?
We are going off down to Cornwall for a week and I think I need it, I'll have a look at your pages Matthew, cheers.
Oh and I need two new handles becouse I can't lock my Portafold, it didn't come with the keys? Any suggestions? Thanks.

Never mind the handles, I found it on your website and ordered it from one of the retailers you listed, great stuff.

Re: Insurance at last!!
The insurance only really comes into effect when the van is not attached to your vehicle. If it's hooked onto the tow hitch then it comes under your car insurance policy. But always good to check what cover is included in your car policy. Also, check with your breakdown service provider that if you should break down, will they recover the trailer as well? Mine does, I got free breakdown cover in my classic policy. So break in damage and fire will be covered when you're on site (un-attached), crash will be covered by car insurance (attached).alexdundee wrote:...does it cover you in a crash (god forbit) or burn down, break in damage?
This would be a good time to shout about the insurance company I use, Peter James Insurance, 0121 506 6040, http://www.peterjamesinsurance.co.uk Quick run down: Comprehensive cover on 3 cars, Ford Fiesta, a modified Ford Anglia and a 1969 petrol Land Rover, all with agreed values and all with unlimited mileage. Three named drivers, third party cover on other cars not owned by me, free European green card (about 21 days I think), free UK and Europe breakdown recovery (not home start).
Place your bets now... How much do you think?
How about £200? Bargain of the century!
If you do take a policy with them, don't forget to mention that it was portafold.co.uk that put you onto them!

Did you ask them if you could have the same key number for both locks? They will do that and it's very useful!alexdundee wrote:Never mind the handles, I found it on your website and ordered it from one of the retailers you listed, great stuff.

I don't think I mentioned this before, but I didn't have a key for Matilda, so I tried the boot lock from our 1969 mk III Spitfire...it works perfectly!!

Don't know that I should mention this - but I took Polly away last weekend, got there, parked up, got her set up and then the husband said the fatal words - "Have you got the key?"
"No - they're on the side at home.....
"
But a small key on his key fob did the trick! Think I may need some new locks!

Oh dear... I have put the keys on my key bundle and on the wifes as well for safety, after what you experienced...Misty Meg wrote:Don't know that I should mention this - but I took Polly away last weekend, got there, parked up, got her set up and then the husband said the fatal words - "Have you got the key?"

Just come back from North Devon and a 900 mile round trip, (in the normal car) towing the Portafold, we had some rain and hard wind, but the Portafold stayed strong and proud while other family tents where bending with the strong winds.
