Help with wheel nuts and studs
Hello all,
I have just come in from the garage after a long struggle with the wheel nuts on my Portafold - I lost and ended up shearing one of the wheel nuts off, so has anyone else suffered this fate or am I unique?
All four of the wheel nuts on one side are completely seized and will not move, the other side was no problem. (Please don't tell me that one side is a left hand thread!!!!!)
Secondly I am just about to remove the body from the chassis and would appreciate any advice re lifting/supporting the body for removal.
PS I presume that I will need a complete stub axle assembly to repair the sheared off wheel nut, does anyone have anything lying aroung that I could use??

I'm afraid you've got it one, they've got a left handed thread, sorry!
As for replacing it, you'll have to wait for someone with more experience at that than me, I've never tried it, over to Neil...
The complete restoration that I got told about was done by using the corner steadies to support the body while you wheel out the chassis from underneath. I'd probably suggest something a little more substantial though, for safety sake.

Hello all,
Yes you were right, one side has a left hand thread, the other three wheel nuts came off without too much trouble, bearing in mind I had tightened them up quite a bit, so does anyone out there have an old hub assembly that they could knock a stud out of for me please!!!
Neil, what kind of modified hubs do you have on your Portafold?
PS Gave up on the idea of removing the chassis, I didn't think that the corner steadies would support the extra strain of lifting the body to the required height to get the chassis out.
If it ain't broke don't fix it I suppose.
On with the painting now, anyone got any tips on painting a Portafold?

The hubs on our portafold are mini hubs, they just widen the track a bit suposedly makes them tow better!

That's what the guy who sold it to you said...
"They're not the original hubs but they do make it tow better, honest guv, swear on my dead grandmuvers life an' all that."
