The daftest of questions...

Post by bigbird » Mon, 27 Jul 2009, 1:44 pm

OK, I'm afraid that this is probably the daftest of questions, but to me it's the most urgent that needs an answer!

How do you stop spiders getting in the unit?

Unfortunately I have one heck of a phobia and going into every crevice with a hoover before we use it every day is just ridiculous! This is a major problem at the moment because every time we open her up they are all around the roof and now about the cushions... I'm wondering if there is some sort of rubber seal required around the roof. I don't have any seal on there at all at the moment! I am going to buy some spider killer spray to make a barrier (sorry to the Buddhists out there)

Thanks Guys n Girls.

Daft question or not......

Hi Jan, a very interesting point you've raised there.

Although our Annie's kept in a decently spider-infested garage, (sorry, I like 'em) I've never seen a spider inside it, anywhere!

I remember you said yours had some damp, one time; this is the only 'normal' problem we haven't had with ours, so perhaps it's damp that attracts them? We certainly get plenty of flies in ours, they were such a nuisance last time we used it we've bought a smelly anti-insect vapour dispenser. So it isn't that spiders come in after the flies, apparently.

There's not supposed to be any seal at roof level, as far as I know - I've never seen one, anyway.

I can only suggest joining us, as it were, in smelling of insect repellent, once you've dealt with the damp!

Steve

Wow a Carcoon Matthew, nice idea! Unfortunately we're parked outside..lol it would look like the Martians had landed.

Steve, yes I see your point. Also, maybe they're getting in where the water is?! Looks like a Vapona is the way to go. She is parked outside, but not near vegetation so I really don't know what else to do. I think I may try a thin strip of draught excluder around the edge where contact is made with the main body, see if that helps, I don't get any in our canvas trailer tent?

Mine has an original strip of square sponge stuck along the top of the side walls. This makes a nice draught excluder when the sides are brought up into position. Forgot I had that until now...

Oo that's interesting, so the draught excluder may work!

It might, but the sponge on mine is about an inch square...

and it's stuck on the walls rather than around the roof edge?

Yep, and there's a small break in it where the gravelly fastener is in the middle, above the window. I'll try and get a picture tomorrow when it goes off for its hinge replacement work.
