Tow cars

Post by txfsealord » Wed, 11 Jul 2007, 5:06 pm

Putting this up on behalf of Lawrie & Christine Newton, Portafolders of Southampton who don't have internet access. We met them last weekend, they tow with a 1098cc Morris Minor 1000 Traveller.

Not towed mine yet, but planning to put it behind one of my Austin 1100 Autos. I had a tow bar fitted in June but the van is not yet road worthy, hoping to take it to the 1100 club national rally in August.

I'll let you know how I get on, as I've never towed before!

Hey, KorenM, I used to know several bods in your club! Is Mervyn Irvine still "Spannerman"? He was lecturing at Guildford Technical College in the '70s, the best in the MV dept. And are Dave Brett & Chris Bryant still members? Sadly Dave was quite ill when I saw him last so he may not be. I rebuilt a shell for Chris, in the late 80s I think it was, remember me to any of them if you think of it please?

Hi Steve,
Yes they all still around, Dave Brett is living in Summerset now but comes to the Surrey and Middlesex monthly meeting a couple of times a year. He'll be at the National as well. Chris Bryant is now chairperson.

What do you tow yours with?

Hi all, now the site's back I can tell you we've bought another tow car, tho' it won't be out for a while.........

A 1953 Morris Six. It looks like a giant Minor from behind, with a long bonnet & pre-war style vertical radiator grille over a 2.2 litre six-pot. It needs a full resto but when done, will hopefully be the mutt's nuts!

Hi Woodie, was that you at the MMOC National - blue Pick-up? We were there in our Ansfold, towed with sage-green 2 door saloon.

Cheers,

We have a 1973 Portafold and towing it with our 1964 Split Screen VW Camper van, its a bit lowered and got a 1600cc engine in.

No problems towing and I can just see the sides of the Portafold in my mirrors and the top trough my rearview mirrow, knowing its still there.

Becouse it tows great, i can see it bobing along countrylanes though and bounces a little! But stays right behind the van.

PORTAFOLD TOW CAR

Post by tigermart » Thu, 11 Sep 2008, 7:33 pm

I tow my recently purchased Portafold behind a Sunbeam Tiger Mk2. The 5.0 litre V8 seems to pull the van with no problem! Tigermart.
