Hi Micheal,
Caravan looks really interesting !!

It would be great to see more photos and find out more info on it. I am a caravan fan in general (sad I know!! 8)) and on my travels I have not seen a caravan like that one. Its good that someone in the forum has got it though.

Is the Model A going to be ready to tow that Portafold of yours next year or even your mates new purchase if he will let you :?:

I look forward to seeing the new discovery at the shows :D

P.S. Hope this message works ok I'm using my new phone to leave this message, very flash I know but, too confusing for my brain, only taken half an hour to do it, technology

bobjoiner wrote:Hi Everyone, new to this site. Im the friend of Michael with the caravan on the two previous photos, as he states it is a Sherman, dating from the early sixties, i would love it if anyone has any more info on these quirky vans, its in bits at the moment, having had all the paint removed "not an easy job" and all the interior wood removed too. i hope to have the renovation complete by may, to start travelling to car shows, Towing it behind my daughters Mini.will try to download some photo of the work so far, if i can figure out how to download them !!!
Bob,
My friend will be doing a resto on his shortly - it would be great if you had any pictures of what the interior is supposed to look like as we are at a bit of a loss as to how and where it all goes............!!

Hi graham, inside was a complete mess when i bought it, so don't really know what the original layout would be. I am going for a bench seat around each side and one end, leaving the walkway in the middle. Hope to be able to put some pictures on the site soon..only concern at the moment is going to be the weight of it... Daughters mini can only legally tow 406kg. And i dont have the first idea of judging weights..will get it put together and take it to a weigh bridge. Bob

Hi Bob,
I've just joined the group and am on the lookout for any info or literature about these vans, I bought one last week it's a Sherman Travelette, mine has the badge on. It was a bit of a find, thought it was a fancy trailer which I could use behinde my VW splitty. Imagine my surprise when I got it home opened it up (couldn't do it at the house I bought it from) and found 4 walls inside along with original bunks, poles and beds all in great nick because the bush it had come from had protected the inside from the rain. I've started to strip it down to restore it so any advise would be welcomed, i.e. where to get parts, rubber seals etc.

Cheers, Andy

Hi sampo,

your trailer looks great !!!!

It looks in a very similar state to when i got mine. Mine is ready for the top coat of paint now, (going for a two tone, red and white to match the daughter's mini) the inside is as mad as a box of ferrets, the daughters choice of colours...not mine !!!

The main time consumer was the removal of dozens of coats of paint, and i mean dozens, let me know what items you need, and i will try to help...

P.s. The rubber seal between the top and bottom seems impossible to get, i've used a rubber u section, with a neoprene section stuck on top.

Best wishes for your build.....bob
