Stupid Question

I know this is probably a stupid question but if you put the J wheel down and legs etc., can you leave your car hitched up to trailer if you are not intending to go anywhere? I am going to an arts festival and you can pretty much park where you like, based on last year, and if I don't need to unhitch, I'd rather not - basic laziness :)

You can, no problem with that as long as you're on level ground. The problem being that if you need to jack the front of the caravan up to make it level, you'll be lifting the car up as well, which will put a lot of strain on the legs and the hitch.

Insurance wise, it will be covered by your car insurance while it's hitched up, as soon as you unhitch it will require its own insurance.

Thanks Matthew. I have an Audi Allroad card so the ride height can go up and down too. The site, from memory is pretty level too. And you just answered my other question at the same time, if its hitched wont need extra insurance!

To be honest, your caravan spends so much time not hitched to a car, it makes sense to have insurance for it. They're so easy to steal, or set fire to, that it's well worth having to be on the safe side.

Thanks for the info Matthew.

Where we will be has a lot of security, its quite a way from the main road as well and the only people camping are staff and volunteers. The campsite isn't open to the general public. I will get it insured when I get back, just watching my pennies at the moment so will leave it hitched for this trip :0)

We live in a pretty secure place down a dead end private lane and it will have to get passed two cars and a truck so I will risk it a while longer - famous last words!
