Does anyone have pictures of an Ansfold kitchen?

I will try to make a portable kitchen to my trailer.

Please email pictures here or to my email address.

Hi Anders,

I've recently posted pictures of my Ansfold's interior, which includes its kitchen of course, on the Owner's Gallery thread. It's titled "Steve & Rose's Ansfold Interior".

It's highly un-original, including a gas-fridge & one or two other extras. Are you looking for views of an original interior? If you are, a friend of mine has a very original one. Let me know if this is what you're seeking & I'll write to him asking for pictures of it for you.

Hello Steve.

Thanks for your answer.

Its was a nice to see your kitchen.

I intend to make or if it is possible to obtain a Ansfold kitchen or something similar. A Portable kitchen to put in inside or in the tent. There is a kitchen sink, etc.
Would need in "close-ups" photos and need the dimensions of the box if possible ?

Please ask your friend about pictures of the kitchen.
my e-mail is"minicab@glocalnet.net"

Do you think it is difficult to get hold of Ansfold kitchen?
It doesent matter if it is in good condition or not.

I liked your interior light "solution".

Do you use the car battery or do you have install a battery in the Ansfold ?

Hi Anders,

I've written to my friend asking for pictures & measurements of his kitchen unit. He may be away at the moment; when I hear from him I'll let you know.

I think it will be difficult to find a usable secondhand Ansfold kitchen. These caravans are only broken up when they are totally worn out & disintegrating, it seems. There are specialist breakers for caravans, possibly worth Googling. Often seen on eBay, are portable camping kitchens of various types. I personally would try & find a suitable one of these, or else simply buy new units from a supplier of caravan equipment & assemble into a home-made unit. My van had the cooker & basic sink (just the plastic bit) loose inside when purchased. I made the rest myself.

My Ansfold has its own battery which is foot-clamped onto a purpose-built steel plinth. The plinth is bolted to the right-hand axle mount, within the locker, so the battery's weight is just aft of the wheels. In my experience, it's important to keep the caravan's moment of polar inertia as low as possible to preserve the best tracking qualities. This requirement can conflict with the noseweight consideration; as the logical place for the gas-bottle(s) is on the drawbar, a suitable-looking battery location would appear to be fairly well aft. This gives a "dumb-bell" type of mass distribution, which promotes snaking & is not advisable! It's bad for the fibreglass hull as well, it can cause distortion while the van is parked up with the corner-jacks raised.

My own gas bottles are on the drawbar & I find very careful attention to weight distribution when loading up is vital. I use a Morris Minor as a towcar & snaking becomes a noticeable effect above 65 mph when passing lorries, however careful I am when loading the weight . If I get it wrong, it snakes at even lower speed. As the UK trailer speed limit is 60mph, it's not intrusive normally, but it would be nice to have better stability........

The year before last I saw a kitchen unit similar to the Ansfold one a stall at the Great Dorset Steam Fair. It was as close as I could remember to the Ansfold one and it was up for £60. The stall holder said he thought it was from a folding camper. I'm sure other manufacturers must have used the same unit as the Ansfold did. Which means there should be some out there.

Fitting one to a Portafold though would require a lot of cutting of the interior. Personally I'd make a kitchen shelf across the back of the van and use that.

Hi Anders,

Just spoke to my friend Alan Madge, (Anorakite, on here) with the original Ansfold. He's moving house very shortly (he hopes - in UK this is a very trying experience) & his Ansfold is in storage, not accessible. When he gets it back, he will take photos for you, but he doesn't know when that will be. I didn't want you to think your request had been forgotten. My apologies for the delay.
