Re: Roof lifter
Hi Derek, good for you. If you're using aluminium tubing (excellent weight-saving idea) you need to take extra care with the sliding parts of the hook-carriage as the softness of ally means steel straps will tend to 'pick up' & score its surface. This is one reason why I used steel tube on mine, the...

Re: Roof lifter
Hi Derek, Sorry to say that when I costed it for an initial 'test batch' of 3off units, the price came out so high it scared me to death. It's one of those simple-looking jobs which takes quite a long time to do, virtually as a one-off, & there's no prospect of big sales to get the price down. If I ...

Re: Brake shoes and drum
Hi Riverside, There is an adjuster under the drop-link part of the handbrake lever, a little way behind it on the long pull-rod going to the axle. This is where one takes up small amounts of wear, when the caravan's in use. Release this, & providing your linkage isn't seized there will now be plenty...

Re: stub axle damaged
Excellent! I'm glad you enjoyed yourself. The most expensive repair, is often the cheapest in the long run. There's nothing like wondering if a wheel is gonna fall off, to spoil the pleasure of good holiday motoring.

Steve

Re: stub axle damaged
Ouch, I feel for you. But you've chosen the best repair possible, good on you. If everyone took your approach, many more of these caravans would have survived. Thanks for the updates you've posted.
Cheers,
Steve

Re: Portafold floor
Hi Lynne, I'm a sub-11-stone weakling & when moving about in any Portafold/Ansfold I'm normally aware of a bit of movement somewhere in its floor. I'd venture to assume (& it is only an assumption) that upper & lower hull-panels were both bonded to the plywood during the van's manufacture. The combi...

Re: Portafold floor
Hi Lynne, The Portafold floor is double-skinned. The upper panel, complete with its corrugations, is the lowest part of the upper hull moulding; that's the part with the holes for the locker-lids plus all the hinge-stiffeners for the folding sides & ends. It includes most of the outer end walls as w...

Re: stub axle damaged
Hi Denis, I don't know where another stub-axle could be obtained, sadly. Your axle could be repaired in several ways, none of them straightforward I'm afraid. If working with the axle still on the caravan, you'd have to hand-file the remains of the old thread away until the axle-end was reasonably c...

Re: National Gathering @ Retrofestival - 11 & 12 August 2012
Well said Vanessa! Portaloo an excellent suggestion & well worth a shared cost. Would it be possible to have a bit more field as well please Matt? Both times we've been to this show, we've been pretty dense-packed together, I've thought.
