Re: National Gathering @ Retrofestival - 11 & 12 August 2012

Hi Matt, please put us down for the 2012 one, this year's was great! It's easily the best show of its kind that we've ever attended & we're dead chuffed at its becoming a regular fixture on the show calendar.

Cheers,

Re: What Do You Tow Yours With?

We are now towing with our 1953 Morris Six 21hp. It's the nearest we'll ever get to owning an American car. Legend has it that Mr Issigonis, the car's designer, cribbed its shape from the 1942 Pontiac Clipper.

Re: Roof lifter

Aw shucks; (blush), thank you very much! I'm only doing what, to me, comes naturally. When I have a problem, like lacking the strength to reliably use one of my toys, I enjoy solving it. And if someone asks about the solution, I enjoy telling how I did it. That's all really. Now then; where can I ge...

Well if you think it's a good idea to prop it Billy, then I won't stand in your way! If it works then we've all learnt something.

Re: Help with erection...

OK RockaBilly, I see wot you mean.... The clothesline prop is useful to your Mum, or mine, because it helps her to lift the washing-line above her head, yes? The line of washing is stable like this 'cos it's anchored at both ends & stretched fairly taut. This stability isn't present in a Portafold r...

Re: Help with erection...

Hi RockaBilly, I'm the bloke who made the winch-&-tubing lifting device. Before we had that, we also struggled; I'm 5'8" & have severe back problems & my wife's healthy but only 5'2". I fitted longer handles both ends of the roof (so we could have more room for our hands & stand straighter when lift...

Re: Holes......

Hi Billy, I'm looking forward to meeting you as a fellow Rockabilly enthusiast! For the water input & waste on our Ansfold I've cut holes in the floor of the locker behind the n/s wheel. These holes are blanked with large plugs when moving. I think these can be seen in the pictures of my gas-fridge ...

Re: Suspension and Brakes

To convert a forward-pulling brake expander to an inward pull, simply weld a rearward-facing arm to the end of the link which protrudes from the backplate, or cut a new L-shaped link from 1/4" solid sheet. A suitable length is usually about 2" (from the side of the existing link to the hole centre o...

Re: Suspension and Brakes

Hi Dan, If you're using any of the original clevises, the thread in them is 5/16"UNF, not M8. When assembling the brake-gear, you can't use lock-nuts on the inboard ends of the cross-rods as the rotation of the suspension trailing arms has to be resolved by the rods turning slightly in their clevis-...
